Check These Things Before You Call Us:

Fairly often one of our repair technicians arrive on an emergency heat pump call only to find that the problem that could have been resolved easily by the owner. Perhaps you can save stress, time, and money by checking these things before you call:

  • Check System Power:
    • Check you circuit breaker panel to ensure that your heat pump system breaker is "ON".
    • Check your indoor HVAC system switch. This switch is typically a traditional toggle switch that may have a RED cover-plate. Make sure your "SYSTEM SWITCH" is set to "ON".
  • Thermostat Settings:
    • For cooling make sure your thermostat is "ON", is set to "COOL", and the desired room temperature is set lower than the current ambient temperature. For heating, verify that your thermostat is "ON", is set to "HEAT", and the desired room temperature is set higher than the current ambient temperature.
    • If your thermostat requires disposable batteries, change them now.
  • Indoor Airflow Issues:
    • Is your indoor air filter clean? Change your disposable air filter, or clean your permanent filter, and re-start your system.
    • Check your duct system inlets and outlets. Are almost all open and clear of obstructions?
  • Other Issues:
    • If your thermostat or the system power was off, after turning the system on give it a few minutes; some heat pump systems have a time-delay function on start-up.
    • If your system is blowing less air than normal (in cooling), but not cooling as well as it should, check your outdoor unit to ensure there is nothing blocking airflow through the outdoor coil. In heating mode, the same issue can occur: the blower is on, but the air coming from the registers in not warm enough. PLEASE NOTE: Be very careful not to damage the fines on your outdoor coil and call us if you need help!
